TS session minor annoyances...that are making me crazy!

Hello!

I have some minor appearance issues to which I cannot yet find an answer. I
am posting here in the hope that some bored guru will stumble upon this post
while I am off on Google looking for the answer.

1) I cannot turn off the "Stop USB Mass Storage Device" item in the system
tray when restricted users are logged into a locked down 2000 TS. I have
"Hide the notification area" checked under User Config > Admin Templates >
Start Menu and Taskbar. I need to kill that so no end user can disable the
USB backup drive on the TS.

2) Another thing I have Googled to death is trying to find a GPO setting to
enable desktop icon auto arrange for all users.

Anybody have a clue?

Thank you!

Gregg Hill (slowly stepping through the lockdown policy still to look for
the above items)

Re: TS session minor annoyances...that are making me crazy!

Here is another annoyance:

In spite of using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/250380/en-us and other
articles to remove the three "stub path" registry entries noted below, and a
gutted Default User profile, I still get an IE icon created on each new
user's "Start > Programs" menu. At least I killed the OE icon creation!

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}]
"StubPath"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}]
"StubPath"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{7790769C-0471-11d2-AF11-00C04FA35D02}]
"StubPath"=""

I've had great luck using a redirected start menu and simply hiding the
icons mentioned below.

I'll try that. Any ideas on the items in my first post?

Thank you!

Re: TS session minor annoyances...that are making me crazy!

Well, it appears I did not have the

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\>{26923b43-4d38-484f-9b9e-de460746276c}

registry entry to kill. I will do that and let you know how it goes.

Thank you!

P.S. I still have that pesky "arrange icons via GPO" question nagging me.

Re: TS session minor annoyances...that are making me crazy!

I just looked on the client's 2003 TS and the

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\>{26923b43-4d38-484f-9b9e-de460746276c}

entry is not there.

Gregg Hill (giving up for the rest of the weekend!)
