Ccleaner in Vista 64?

Hey gang,

I used to run, Cccleaner, in XP, and kind of liked how it cleaned out temp
files, etc.

I notice the latest release, states that Vista 64 bit is supported, but does
mention there are some " non critical" issues remaining.

I run Vista Ultimate 64 bit, just curious if anyone is running the program
in Vista 64, and how you like it?

I had no problems with cCleaner in Vista 32 or Vista 64. The one to watch
is Eusing reg cleaner from:
http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm

which totally trashed my XP Pro x64 installation to the point I had to
re-install.

think they are a dangerous piece of software claiming to solve a problem
that doesn't exist and doesn't need solving.

That's probably a matter of opinion, I have always used cCleaner with no
issues. If installer/uninstallers did their job properly then perhaps we
wouldn't need registry cleaners, unfortunately MSFT apps are among the
worst offenders.

Of course, if MSFT would include a registry cleaner/defragger with the OS
instead of silly utilities like Movie Maker and Media Player and non
standards compliant apps like OE it would be a different matter.

I'm with Charlie on this. Not that installers/un-installers aren't leaving
things behind that they shouldn't, but you are much better off learning the
basics of the Registry to clean it out, manually, yourself, (if you're in
trouble) than having, possibly dubious software, rumaging around in there.

As for 'Defragging' the Reg. - I simply do not see the need for this,
considering the vastness of the volume of the Reg. - what you might recover
is less than a 'drop-in-the-ocean'?

If you think you are really 'in-deep-****', you're better off using Recovery
or Repair Install or in the worst-case-scenario: a clean re-installation,
than having 3:rd party software inside your Reg..

My main interest, in Cccleaner, is in the clearing out temp files, not
necessarily the reg cleaner part of the program.
I would probably stay away from that.

Why not either manually clean them, or use the MS built in disk cleanup app?
(Right click a drive, and select Properties, then disk cleanup.)

Combining that with setting IE to automatically dump it's temp files when
you exit should keep things reasonably cleaned up.

I normally do run disc cleanup on a regular basis, and perhaps that is
enough, just seems like in XP at least, Ccleaner seemed to get a lot more
stuff. I supposed, that could be good or bad.

Honestly, I rarely bother with disk cleanup. I create my partitions large
enough to not end up in trouble early, I put my data and user files on
separate partitions, and only very rarely bother with cleaning off the boot
partition. Of course, I'm the sort of user who often has a beta OS or two
installed, so I tend to be rebuilding systems fairly often. And I almost
always do a clean install of any OS, whether beta or released.

I have XP Pro x64 and made the mistake of using CCleaner and, like someone
else here, it trashed my Windows installation and had to format. I now use
Advanced Windows Care, free version. At first I created registry back-ups
and restore points in case it caused problems but it never did. The program
also has an option to undo changes that the program makes if a problem
arises, which never happened to me. But, as I said, I have XP Pro x64 and
I'm not sure if it will work with Vista so you might want to check into that
before you use it. It's a great program. It also scans for adware and junk
files left over from uninstalling programs, it checks system optimization,
start-up programs and a few other things.
