Windows XP, SP3.
All Updates and patches as offered to date installed.
Today being August 31, 2008
HP USB port printer CS3100 series.
I have licensed copies of Word 2002 on this system as well as an older
version of Office 97 that includes Word, Access, Power Point, and the
rest.
Well... recently Word 97 has ceased printing. When you commit
something to print, it is sent to the printer queue but just sits
there. When we look at the printer spool queue it says "spooling" and
does nothing.
At the same time I was having a problem printing from Word 2002 but
learned that there may be a problem with the "normal" template. After
resetting the normal template on 2002 I was able to print again no
problem. However doing the same to Word 97 is not correcting the
problem.
I also tried reinstalling Office 97 (Word 97 Module) from the
installer CD to no avail.
Now, I can print from my web browser, Notepad, word pad, etc and also
from Word 2002. I can also print from the other Office 97 modules
such as Power Point, Excel, and the rest. Just Word 97 won't print.
I was wondering if SP3 which was recently installed may have inhibited
Word 97 in some way? I can open Word 97 and use it to create a
document and save it. However when it is saved it receives an icon
for word 2002 (expected) and next time I open it by double-clicking
that file icon, it will open with Word 2002.
I'd like to still be able to use Word 97 to open, save, and print docs
when I want, and as noted, until recently I was able to do that.
Oh yes... I recently also downloaded the converter modules from
Microsoft so I can open and use docX files created in Word 2007 on
Vista machines. Anything there to be concerned with?
For what its worth, I have a Windows 2000 networked and share the
printer on the XP machine. Form the Windows 2000 machine I can print
from both Word 2002 and Word 97, so it is clearly not the printer.
Open to suggestion on a fix if there is any.
Thanks
