I was looking through my internet security history with Norton, and I noticed
an automatic lowering of my firewall, to enable file shareing. It was a low
level risk.

The records say it happened yesterday at 155 PM, connecting to a trusted
network, GATEMAC 00 14 6C 94 D5 14
I have not uploaded ANY IP adresses to trust for file shareing. Nor have I
in the past shared files over the web.

I thought it might be for updates, or system statistics, but am unsure. Is
there a way to find more information? Such as what files might have been
shared? I am not extremely good with tracing programs.

GATEMAC 00 14 6C 94 D5 14 is the MAC address of a network adapter, aka
the Physical Adapter's address.

What's the MAC address of the network adapter in your system ?
In XP, double click on the network icon in the Notification area.
Click the Support tab.
Click the Details button.

Doesn't NIS, or whichever Norton software, log the 'trusted' network's
IP address ?

Was a 'shared' printer installed yesterday ?

Having sharing turned on with no intervention is not a low level risk,
despite what NIS states, unless 'something' was knowingly installed by
*you* that requires sharing.
