Hi there,

read an article a couple of weeks ago about an upcoming storage feature
pack. Appearantly it would include support for encrypting USB sticks.

What I'm really curious about is if it will be compatible with LUKS
http://luks.endorphin.org/. Been using LUKS for quite a while under
linux and am able to use it under windows using FreeOTFE. Unfortunately,
this requires administrator rights, atleast at installation, not sure on
usage.

As far as I'm concerned, atleast at this moment, LUKS has the best
options to make it to a global standard. After waiting for years for
encryption on USB sticks and the like it would be nice if there would be
a standard, so all platforms can use it.

IMHO this is also the biggest problem holding back encryption on USB
sticks and it is why many governments and the likes don't encrypt at the
moment. The chance the computer they need the stick on next doesn't
support the encryption, simply is too large.

I'd also like to see the feature pack be brought out as an essential
update for this reason. As often you don't have administrator rights on
computers you use, you will be unable to install storage packs or tools
like FreeOTFE or truecrypt, etc.

Anyways, looking forward to some answers.

TIA

Re: Storage Feature Pack and LUKS encryption

Hi,

Whether or not the upcoming Storage Feature Pack from MS, which is to be
released for XP, Vista, 2003 and 2008 will support LUKS encryption.

Basically I could post it in any of those windows versions' newsgroups I
suppose.

TIA
