Help! unable to solve these problems

I have a customer experiencing 2 problems that I can not seem to permently
solve.
1st problem:
Offline folders with XP wSP3 and 2000 SVR Std wSP4) user has been working
fine for several years using offline folders, had to replace the user system
(hardware failure) new PC has same OS. Essentually nothing has changed except
the physical PC and now user keeps getting syncronization errors on files she
creates offline; server says she is not authorized to creat file on the
server folder. I have tweaked the security up and down on the user and the
folder(the specifice user has admin rights) and I have stopped and re-enabled
offline folders. Userand I am totaly frustrated. What we are forced to do is
move the new file to the users desktop(while offline) then copy it to the
folders manualy(when online), but this really defeats the whole purpose of
the feature.
All ideas are appreciated?

User has mapped home drive Z: when maps correctly, it maps directly to
users specific folder. Ocassionally it maps Z: incorrectly one level up which
then shows all the users folders. The temp fix is to reboot the PC and
hopefully the occassional does not repeat and all is well. What is causing it
to map 2 different ways?

Hi - for future reference, you'll probably get more help if you a) use
concise subject lines and b) post different issues as separate posts.

Ah, you mean "Offline Files" in WinXP (offline folders is an Outlook term).

I'd suggest resetting the cache - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/230738.
I also don't recommend offline files on LAN connected computers anyway. The
feature is prone to error, and I don't see the value - users should always
be working on files on the server. For more help you might try posting in
m.p.windowsxp.general.

In group policy, enable "Always Wait for Network at Computer Startup and
Logon" for all your workstations. This is a known issue.

I was going to look into that myself. Are there situations or machines
where it should not be applied?

I can't find it,...where did they bury it in the millions of layers of the
GPO tree in the Editor? Yes, I did Google it,...and "MS'ed" it on MS
site,...people say to use it,...no one ever says how to find it. MS's site
was mysteriously silent about it other than the Newsgroups and Forums part
of the Site.

None that I know of. I always enable it.

Thanks for your feedback, FYI: I did post this earlier with a better subject
and recieved no response after 13 days so I reposted as you see it and your
the only one to respond. Thank You again.
The user is a laptop user, and has been using offline files for many years
with no problems. The value to her is she can work on files when she is
offline (when not connected to the LAN). I guess thats how they came up with
the name "Offline Files".

The cache reset did not work, thanks for your idea though.

on the second sugestion will this cause cached credentials not to be used
when offline?

Yes. For laptops, it's useful (but I use third party software & custom GPOs
instead)

I am open to you recommendation for 3rd party sync and how you are using GPO

I have a separate OU for laptops. I set up a policy linked there that uses
loopback processing. I redirect My Documents to the local profile location
or custom folder (e.g., c:\data) and use SecondCopy from www.centered.com -
set up a profile to sync the local folder to \\server\users$\%username%\My
Documents, which is the same folder I redirect desktop users to.

Make sense? It works pretty well for me. I also redirect the desktop &
application folders to the server for desktop users, but for laptop users I
redirect it to the local profile folder and don't sync. I advise people not
to put crap on their desktops. :-)
