Ive tried using Nero 7 and windows (vista ultimate x64), the disc is ejected
without attempting a burn and an error message appears "unable to burn the
project". The dvd properties do show a 8GB disc in the drive and device
manager says its working properly. Other than this problem it has worked
fine. Its an LG GSA 4163B super multi re writer, the firmware is up to date,
windows is up to date and has no updates for this problem. The discs are
Infiniti 8x dual layer +r.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated

thanks

Have you tried different media?

Re: Cannot burn a dual layer dvd

Other than mistaking a 'Double Layer' for a 'Dual Layer' medium, if it is a
ISO job - I have seen ISO's that are specific to the +/- formats.

(Check your signal cables?)

Re: Cannot burn a dual layer dvd

Ive burnt ISOs using 4gb discs with no problems,in fact this is the first
time ive ever had problems burning any type of files. Everything in the PC is
new or only a few months old. The dvd writer is about 2 years old but hardly
been used to be honest, its still as new. All cables are new and seated
correctly. Windows/BIOS/firmware are all up to date.
The error message i get using nero is "could not perform start of
disc-at-once" but if i swap to a standard 4gb disc it burns no probs. Nero is
set to burn at DVD-9.

Is there anything im missing? Such as enable..../check a setting?

This is the first time ive tried to burn a dual layer disc so have no idea
if this worked ok under XP.

I'm going to reiterate John Barnes' advice. I started with some web order
bargain dual layer media and had all sorts of issues while trying to burn VS
Orcas Beta 1. After reading several reviews of dual media, one theme seemed
to come to the forefront: "Get Verbatim!".
I got a small pack of Verbatim (15) DVD+R DL at my local Best Buy, and all
my issues went away. Perfect burn the first and all subsequent times.
FWIW, I'm using Nero 7 on both XP and Vista boxes. No issues on either with
Verbatim.

Re: Cannot burn a dual layer dvd

Ive had no problems with infiniti cd r's in the past so expected the same of
the dvd r's. Ive recently switched to verbatim 4gb discs after reading, just
as you have, reviews that all recommended verbatin dvds. I was so confident i
bought 100! I think i will take my losses on the chin and buy a pack of
Verbatim dual layer. And for the future will stick with verbatim for all
media.
I have 2 pcs both with dvd writers, my already mentioned LG plus a lite-on
all formats which pretty much will burn/play all media discs.... except that
it wont even load these DL discs!
Im just glad that the discs were ejected without being ruined.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, if the verbatim discs are the answer to
my prayers i will let you know.

Re: Cannot burn a dual layer dvd

My verbatim DL dvds arrived this am, instant success! No errors, no tantrums
or spitting discs out... just a clean hassle free burn.

If anyone is having probs RE DL burning just buy a pack of verbatim and like
john said THEY WORK!
