Can't Run windows update from DC

Hi.

I'm experiencing a problem with my DC, which host Exchange, IIS. When I
manually run the windows update via the browser I get promt to install the
ActiveX for Genuine verifycation. After I select install ActiveX, it check
for updates for maybe 2 seconds than it prompts me for the ActiveX install
all over again. It like it caught in a loop. This only started when I ran the
last Windows update on the 27th of June I believe. Any thoughts?

Everything works fine with the exception that I can't get updates. SBS 2003,
Exchange 2003 R2.
Any help on this would much appreciated.

After instaslling the ActiveX, do you see it being listed under IE's Add
Ons?

You mgiht want to post this question in the Windowsupdate NG too.

Thanks Jabez.

It Genuine Activex component is installed.
The message I Got was "This site might require the following ActiveX
control: 'Windows Update' from Microsoft Windows Component Publisher'. Click
here to install..."

The WuWebcontrol class (wuweb.dll) was not updating via the update. I select
it from the ad-ons list and I selected Update ActiveX and it worked from
there.

Can you be specific on how you correct the issue... I'm having the same
problem but I'm not able to following what was done to correct it.

Sure Lary.

Jabez suggested I made sure the ActiveX in reference was listed under IE's
Add Ons:
Via the browser go to Tools -> Manage Add ons... In the Show drop down: I
chose ' Ad-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer'
I selected the one named (WUWebControl Class) and I Clicked the Update
ActiveX button. Once the update was complete, I was able to run the windows
update.

Thanks for getting back,

I don’t have the “Uupdate ActiveX” button option or the WUWebControl Class
file.

When I go to the Manage On-Add window, I only have the option to disable,
enable or delete the ActiveX. The closest file that I have to WUWebControl
Class is MUWebControl Class.

Found my solution

Found my solution

I found that if the ActiveX control is not displayed in the Add/Remove
program list, you can delete it from Windows\Downloaded Program folder (ie >
4.0). http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=154850


When I went to that folder I found the wuweb.dll file and with the right
mouse, updated the control. Then I went into IE and the Windows Update
worked as expected.
