I installed windows 2003 server and also Terminal Server. Do I need a
separate license for Terminal server? I do have windows 2000 Terminal server
license number. Would that work for Windows 2003 server? Right now I am
using (Windows 2003 server) temporary one which is good for 120 days.

Re: TERMINAL SERVER

Hello boba,

You need for any user/machine a separate TS CAL if you run the TS in application
mode. If you run it in Administration mode you have no need for liceneses,
this allows you 2 simultan connections for administration.

Your 2000 TS license will not work with 2003TS. You will need:

1) a 2003 server to act as license server
2) a TSCAL for each user or workstation that will access the server.

Keep in mind, that if all you want to do is manage the server remotely,
you don't need to install 2003 TS. What used to be called
"Administration Mode" no longer requires TS. You just enable remote
access and you can use the RDP client to access the server. You can have
2 remote and 1 console session on the server w/o having to install TS.
