Can renew IP address

I have a laptop with Windows XP Home with SP3. I connect the laptop directly
to the DSL router and it is set to get IP automatically. However, the last
few days I noticed that it does not generate IP address. I know the DSL
connection is OK since I tried another laptop. I got another PCMCIA NIC and
yet it also cannot get an IP address. I did get a reply by ping 127.0.0.1.

Any ideas what's wrong?

Re: Can renew IP address

Open a Command Prompt and enter:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Re: Cannot renew IP address

I'm having the identical problem. JS's suggestion did no work. Any other
ideas?

Re: Cannot renew IP address

Any third party firewall installed? If so, it may be blocking DHCP requests.
