So i got a new laptop for one of my doc's. It came with Vista
downgrade to XP, with XP preinstalled. I added our apps, whole nine
yards to get it ready to riprep it. Ripreped it, then booted it back
up to test the new image, when i test the image, i get prompted for
the License key but the vista key doesn't work for XP. Is there some
way around this that anyone can thing of?

I can't use vista because our in house apps don't support it yet.

I quote "Is there some way around this that anyone can thing of?"
I'll also expand, Does anyone have a clue if RIS (which is a server
related application) has a work around with the vista downgraded xp
machines so that once they are imaged you can reimage machines?

I know saying this is going to lower my chances of having my question
answered but, NeilH if you don't think my question belongs here how
about just saying so instead of throwing out a dumb oneliner like,
"and your server question is..." You do realize that RIS is a server
application don't you?

Re: RIS a Vista downgraded Xp machine - Is it possible?

RIS (and now WDS) requires that Volume Licensed (VL) media with valid Volume
Licens Key (VLK) is used if you wish to avoid activating each installed PC.
Computers built with Windows XP VL media do not require activation.
Computers built with Vista media (Business, Enterprise, Ultimate) default to
being activated using KMS. If you don't use KMS, each copy has to be
activated by Microsoft. VLK is specified in the appropriate '.inf' file.

IOW, RIS and RIPREP processes have nothing to do with licensing. It's the
variant of OS that is installed that 'decides' whether to go to try to
activate or not.
