Hi,
I need to backup a directory and alot of subdirectories and tons of file in
that directories. The directories hold mailboxes and mail items.
Neither Symantec backup Exec nor Acronis True image can handle this
operation. I need to backýp these directories as fast as possible. So anyone
has suggestions or experiences about this problem?

Hello,

We have the same problem, that's why we chose Netbackup and not backupexec.
Netbackup allow to backup the partition as raw (flashbackup), while indexing
the content to allow one file restore.

Do you have a san ? do you have san snapshot feature ?

Do you defrag often with advanced defrag solution (like O&O) ?

Re: backup millions of file?

yes, they are SAN disks.
I do not know exactly but i don't think we have snapshot feature.
No we do not defrag the disks. actually i thougt about it before. Since a
lot of users are connected via pop3 and there are millions of files, i am
not sure if defrag will lock the files or something unwanted will happen.

And can you please tell me more about Netbackup? Does it work well with
millions of files. how much time does it take to backup about 100 GB or 400
GB files?

Talk to your SAN vendor, they probably have canned solutions for you
