Please reply if you find a solution to this issue. I have also been struggling with the same issue for some days now.

That proves to me it's some stupid web forum somewhere....

It's going to be a while before i get any usefull information from them.

Will update this post if i get a valid/usefull answer from them.

RE: KB952241 fails on XP sp3

I'm getting the same thing here on my end.

Windows XP Pro with SP3.

The install just keeps installing itself, over and over and over.

RE: KB952241 fails on XP sp3

ONE MORE ARGUMENT TO KEEP HANDS OFF SP3 !!!

No damn way to get any information about how to fix this problem.
Thanx Microsoft, first for the money, last for the support :(

RE: KB952241 fails on XP sp3

After numerous emails to and from the support team, I was forced to try
the most unprofessional solution.

Uninstall visual studio, install the kb and reinstall visual studio.

While i understand that every single issue faced by every single consumer
cannot be escalated higher up the support infrastucture, i really hope that
this issue is reported to authors of kb install packages.

It's really sad that you have to uninstall the actual product to get a patch
installed.

Re: KB952241 fails on XP sp3

Had you upgraded to VS 2008 from, e.g., VS 2005 (SP1)?

Nevertheless that may be the most effective alternative, therefore "professional".

Less professional would be wasting time trying to find a more clever
less invasive solution to your (undiagnosed?) symptoms. ; )

Hmm... 2902 seems to be a commonly seen symptom too.
One instance was claimed to be fixed by Vista's installer... <eg>

http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=246617

(Live Search of microsoft.com for
2902 -"helpful posts" "Visual Studio" install
)

BTW this really seems to have more to do with the VS product
than with WU, especially if you get the same symptoms trying
a manual install of the update.
