I have a situation where I have a WinXP SP2 computer (Compaq) with no
internet connection.
I would like to apply all of the missing updates & patches to it.

I have a SP3 CD that would probably be the easiest way to update the
computer but I dont want IE7.

Can IE7 be removed or de-selected from the install?

I also have another XP SP2 computer at different location (Dell) that has an
internet connection and is up to date via Windows update (no IES7). The
computer is set to download, but not install updates. Can I copy the
Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder to the first computer (it is completely
different hardware)?

Re: Updating computer with no internet connection/Remove IE7 from SP3?

Microsoft has a web page for each update that lets you download the update
on one computer in a form that can be written to a CD, and then install it
on other computers. Go to microsoft.com and enter an update identifier in
the search field. You will get links to "Download details" for the update.

You can look at the update history in Windows Update on your connected
computer to get the identifiers of the updates. Update identifiers begin
with the letters KB; for example, KB954366 is a security update to Vista.

SP3 is a collection of updates. You can select which ones you want to
install.

Aren't there many, many updates (100+). There is no way to do it as a group?
I have to find each one individually?
The two ideas I proposed are not workable in some manor?

Thanks

Store Windows Updates locally for subsequent installations -

IE7 is not included in SP3.

IE 7 is not part of the SP3, either the full SP3 download nor the full
Windows XP install CD with SP3 "merged" in. It is completely separate
download / install.

I think Pope Leo I said (paraphrasing): "Install them all and let Windows
sort it out."

Re: Updating computer with no internet connection/Remove IE7 from SP3?

SP3 does not install install IE7. SP3 is a cumulative collection of
fixes and security updates and IE7 is neither of these. SP3 does include
updates for IE7, but obviously these are only installed if IE7 is
already present on your system.
