i had a problem last night, and this post might be premature b/c i have
not had any time to do the basic fixes.

my friend had installed a few trial games from a website, and when he
was uninstalling them, they left icons on the desktop. we tried to
delete them, but it said the file couldnt be found, so i thought we
would reboot to see if they would disappear. my friend hit the hibernate
button thinking it would give him the old xp option to restart.
hibernate always messes my computer up, it goes black and it takes me
unplugging it to get it back up. upon reboot it said that 'overlcocking
failed' so i reset my cmos (there were some settings i had to change in
the bios from a problem i had with my ram). then, upon booting up i
tried to login to both a user and admin account, only to recieve the
error 'handle invalid' on both accounts.

anyone else have that error? i have seen 1 post on the net about this
and he simply used the last known good config

anyone else have problems w/ hibernate? anytime i go into hibernate it
crashes the computer and comes up w/ the overclocking failed message.

anyone else have problems deleting programs or desktop links? i had 1
other problem w/ this, and after a reboot it seemed to resolve, but ...

any help appreciated

Re: Handle invalid

Go with the 'last known config' first as you suggested.

The hibernation issue could be a dodgy piece of hardware or driver for it.

Re: Handle invalid

I have seen this when an antispyware program or antivirus program thinks a
program (or its sure that a program) is spyware.

turn every antispyware and antivirus off for a moment, then try to delete
the icons, then turn them back on
