So, I'm still waiting for someone with technical knowledge to answer my
question.
My last post was hijacked by a flame war so whoever might have been reading
my post just got fed up with the crap and left it to the flamers. Could
someone
just answer my question without sarcasm and flaming please?

What do you call a window that is always on top and semi-transparent (like a
ghost)? But clicks and typing will go through to the windows beneath it.
I'm searching for such a product, but I can't figure out what to call it.
I'm looking for one that is compatible with video.

It's not wallpaper, background, or a screensaver. I've found other products
that do this but they are not compatible with video because of resources
and hardware acceleration. There is a product available at mindmovies.com
for a monthly fee, but what is the point of paying monthly for something I
could
just own and use? If the capability is there, then there must be a product
somewhere.
My biggest problem is that I don't know how to word what it is I'm Googling.
What
am I looking for?

You might try 'overlay'

Hi,

Just a wild guess,

Did you see it on web sites or desktop applications?

If it's on web sites, you might be seeing something called Lightbox, which
will present a window to overlay on the current page, and upon user's input,
it will take you to a different page.

The purpose of the lightbox (other than, looks cool) is to reduce
distractions from other areas of the page so the user can focus on the
current input fields.

Search the net using keyword - lightbox for more information.

If it's not from a web site, I couldn't figure out what it is.

Hope this helps and good luck.

It's more likely to be some form of VMR than Overlay mode.

So, basically, you want to see transparent videos while you are trying to
work, in some sort of effort to subliminally alter your mind? <chuckle>

If you read up on Subliminal Messages on Wikipedia, there are links to
scientific papers that conclude that there is no evidence in support of it.

Add one to your insult count. You count has reached more than 97,000+
insults over the last few years. Pretty sick statistics for a moron who
makes this his lifes work.

Better call your mental professional for more treatment.

Just FYI

Regardless if sibliminal messages work, I'd still be able to view my TV
on Windows Media Center while still working. Also, Wiki is not
an authority on anything. Anybody can create a page and post it on Wiki.
It doesn't mean it's true.

You didn't at all. There are no responses from Ringmaster in this or any
other thread I started.

There are already programs that create such a window. One is being rented
by the month at MindMovies.com. Also, nobody in any of the three threads
gave me any reason why it couldn't be done. I don't know what you've been
reading, but it wasn't any of my threads.

When you present some facts, I might read them. If you're truly finished
'educating' me, thank you.

Er, there are things called references. You can't just edit a page with
rubbish without it being removed later. It may be too factual for people
who choose to believe in pseudosciences, creationism, horoscopes, etc,
though.. Being able to filter information you receive from wherever it
comes from (be it books, television news, newspapers, your next door
neighbour, quacks, etc) and weight it accordingly, relating it to whatever
you already know, and a bit of shaving with occam's razor, is what being an
adult is all about.

I'm afraid you'll ask to ask whoever eventually develops such a
product, if and when they do, what they call it. To the best of my
knowledge, no such thing currently exists.

> I'm looking for one that is compatible with video.

What, precisely, do you mean by "compatible with video?" By
definition, if a window appears on your Windows desktop, it's obvious
compatible with your video adapter and driver. Do you want to be able
to "click/type through the window" onto the video? Or do you want to
"click/type through the video" into another file/document? Until you
can express precisely what you want, you're going to get only imprecise
answers, at best.

You claim to have already fiound several iterations of products that do
what you want? Then what did their developers call them? I've still
never found any such thing; please post a link to an example.

Not necessarily. Especially if there's no significant market for such
a thing, whatever it is.

What do the developers of the similar products you've already found
call their products?
