change file names in folder

I have scanned many documents and saved them in a folder. Little did I
realize at the time that the file name that was generated places semicolons
in the time field. Now I need to copy these folders to a disk, and the
software tells me that semicolons cannot be a part of the file name. Is
there some way I can globally eliminate the semicolons in each file name in
the folder or will I have to manually change every file name individually?

There are any number of file renaming programs out there. Sometimes I think
that creating one is single most common assignment everyone receives in
programming class. Personally I use "The Rename"

because I'm used to it but a simple Google search will turn up dozens more
and every one I've seen has been a freebie. There are difference is the
interface and the capabilities but what you describe doing is dead simple
-- a straightforward search in the file name and replace (or drop) a character.

John, I went to the web site and couldn't figure out how to download the
rename software. Guess this web site is either too complicated for me or I'm
just stupid. Thanks anyway for trying to help me.

1. Log on to the site John gave you.
2. Click the British flag to select the English language.
3. Locate the phrase "You can download the latest version here :
therename.zip (2.9 MB)
4. Click "therename.zip".
5. Unzip it.
6. Run it.
