Printer' Wrong Ink Cartridge' Message

Today I tried to print something and a window popped up saying I had the
wrong ink cartridge installed. Well it's the same cartrige that printed fine,
a few days ago. Is this a new thing that Dell might have recently installed
on my computer to make me buy Dell branded ink?
And does anyone know how to get rid of it? I can't make it go away or print
anything, and also there is no red box to even close the window, I have to
close it with the Task Manager.
It is a Dell Photo All-in-One Printer and the computer is a Dell Windows XP.

It is most likely that the connection between the cartridge and printer is
not as good as it could be. Remove the cartridge and reinsert it and see
what happens.

This is not any software update on the Xp PC. More and more printer
manufacturers are including a chip to validate the print cartrdge. If
the "non-branded" print cartridge is not making there 'compatible'
chips correctly, you get this message.

Also, Lexmark is supposed to also include an expiry date in their
cartridge. If you install a ink cartridge that is brand new but past
the expiry date, you can also get a message like this.

And ink-cartridge chip-resetters are available (e.g., Ebay). These cartidge
chips, in addition to the functions named, inform the printer driver that
they are "out of ink." Simply re-filling the cartridge won't work - you have
to reset the chip.
