I opened a folder in Windows Explorer. Went to VIEW, FOLDER TYPES,
VIEW, clicked on "Like current folder". (Which I have set to view as
LIST). I also unchecked the View as Webpage before saving.
In Windows explorer, they all view fine.

However, I have a shortcut icon on my desktop for each of my
partitions. (example) Drive C Drive D Drive E CDrom, Floppy A etc.
when I click on them, and open any folders inside, the files are being
seen as LARGE ICONS.

WHY? (this is really irritating).

Thanks

hm... something have perhaps gone wrong with you defaultsettings I guess...
it is in this registry setting I think
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ExpView
perhaps you can delete it, and set your defaults again i the filemanager
or edit it...
in line called "0028" the 5th doublehexnumber

01 = large ugly icons
02 = small ugly icons
03 = List
04 = Details list

here (with list of course) that line look like this:
0028 44 02 00 00 03 00 00 00 D.......

remember to press delete ones to delete the old byte (one byte is two
hexnumbers)
when you write your new.

I have no idea of what the other numbers do, perhaps someone know
or know a webpage that describe them ?

if that is not the problem, perhaps there is a saved setting
for your C:\ D:\ E:\ etc folders...

Try what you did with each one separately, &/or try R-Clk, Explore,
instead of just a click on the ones that won't work. If that doesn't
work, show us the Target of one of them, i.e., "R-Clk, Properties,
Shortcut tab", copy & post it.

Here is what I usually post for that condition...

"START, Settings, Folder Options, General tab". Set to "Classic
style". If all gets better, click "Custom...", & gingerly go back to how
you like it. But stay away from "Enable all Web related content...".

Next, open a folder, &...

(1) Set the folder as you will.
(2) Even resize it, USING the mouse and dragging the borders.
(3) Hold Ctrl as you click to close the folder/window.
(4) Perhaps, reboot.

If you wish, also "START, Settings, Folder Options, View tab, Reset all
folders" before step (1). Then, "Like current folder" before step (3).
Of course, all individualized folder settings, except perhaps "thumbnail
view", will be lost. If still unhappy, try turning off "Remember each
folder's view settings" before step (1), and back on later (or leave it
off, as Terhune often said).

Here are some articles that might have additional info.
