icon cache in a folder

I have a folder on my desktop that I keep about 25 files in, each with a
unique icon. When I open the folder the systems takes nearly 10 seconds to
display these files, but only the first time I open it. This discovery or
caching does not persist across a reboot. I do not notice this behavior on
any other folder on the computer, nor does the computer behave oddly or
slowly in any other way.

Is there a way that I can eliminate or reduce this icon discovery time, or
is this expected behavior?

The machine is a Dell B120 with 1.4GHz/1G running Windows XP SP3. Thank
you.

The "View" is selected as "Icons".

Re: icon cache in a folder

Some information for you:

To proceed: Go to: Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View/Show Hidden
File and Uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files.

Delete Icon Cache. It is located here:

IconCache.db
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data

To clear and reset icon cache:

Right click the Desktop/Properties/Appearance/Advanced. Use the item
drop box and choose Icon. Change the pixel number by one. Ok your way
out.

Resetting the icon cache did the trick. Nice.
