Cannot access removable media.

XP SP2 machine that cannot access removable media (cd/dvd, usb, etc..). The
user is a member of the local admin's group, and the admin group when logging
onto the domain. There are no default domain causing the issue (other users
are fine) and nothing I find in the local secuirty policy causing this
behavior.

When inserting a cd, it says "Administrator has .....access denied"
something along those lines. When I click run > e:\ I get an access denied
error.

Please help...thank you!

Group policies, if the PC is part of a "corporate" business network
that has a Windows Server

If this is a single PC, get proper anti-virus / anti-spyware tools via
downloads and install. This type of message can indicate an
infestation.

Thank you for the reply Kelly.

I have tried the file but get the same result. "Administrator has prohibited
access"...when I type e:\ I get the "access denied" still.

Any ideas?

There are reports that the "eLock Service" which comes with
a Norton product causes this.
Start -> Run
services.msc

Check if you find "eLock Service" here. Set it to disabled
and stop it.

Another reports say that the "Intel Desktop Utilities"
cause this. If you have these installed shortly, uninstall
them.

Well, it's an Acer desktop pc. Acer has a program where you can lock drives
etc...however it is disabled. I've even locked everything and unlocked but
still not working.
