Cannot Format

I tried to format the disk. It says something is mounted and cannot
fromat. I cannot run anything that will take XP. I have a copy of
Linux. would Linux Xandros remove it?

I really want it out. I tried the disc and reloading Windows XP, but
the same results happen.

Mauybe I may need to get a new hard drive.

If you are trying to format your system drive from within Windows you can't
do that, you have to boot off your XP CD and format it during the setup
process or boot to the recovery console and use the diskpart command.

It sounds like you're trying to format the drive containing the
system volume from within WinXP. You can't. This would be the computer
equivalent of sawing off the tree limb you're sitting on, and WinXP is
"too smart" to allow this.

After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS
installation,, simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll
be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order
of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
