Hi, The logon dialogue box appears asking for the user name and password.
When the password and user name is entered they can’t access the share. If
they attempt to browse to the 2003 server via network neighbourhood they
can’t even view the share on this server. When they click on the server in
network neighbourhood they are prompted for the user name and password. This
is not the case when they browse to any of the 2000 domain controllers in
this domain as they can see the shares listed when they click on the 2000 DC
name.

Hi Monkey,
I am still not really clear that you have given the users access to the
Share in the other domain.
What happens if you take a named user in north.newtrader.co.uk and give that
user explicit permissions on the Share and the Folder in
west.newtrader.co.uk? Do they still get access denied?
If that's not it we can look at what else it might be,

Hi, when I specifically add the user to the share they still cannot gain
access. I was of the opinion that they shouldn't be prompted for a user name
and password. As mentioned previously user that have the same access rights
in the parent domain are not prompted for a user name and password. This
should be the case for the child domains.

W2K creates an automatic transitive trust, so you can add users across
domains if you want to, but they do not have rights or permissions unless
you grant them.
You said early on that "domain users" have permissions on the Share, but
users in the North domain are not members of "domain users" in the West
domain. What group are you using to give them permissions on the Share and
the Folder?
