No. You can provide a real email address in Reply-to and ask to
be replied to via email but such requests are usually rejected.

If you use a REAL newsreader like XNews, any replies to your
posts are highlighted and "jumped to" when you update the group
headers. You can't ask for much more than that.

email notification when someone responds to your post in a newsgroup?

Gurus,

Is there a way to configure a newsreader to send you an email notification
when someone responds to your post in a newsgroup?

Which newsreader? How can the newsreader "know" if it doesn't sync with the
newsserver?

The replier does it by reply by mail instead of reply in the group. A
pointless task that shouldn't be used in such a group as this IMHO.

No.

But if you use Outlook Express, while in its newsreader mode, simply
press Ctrl+H. Then you'll see if there are any new responses in threads
you have been participating in.

Re: email notification when someone responds to your post in a newsgroup?

Some of us prefer top-posting.

Why ask here? This has nothing to do with XP.

Ask elsewhere

Well, at least you didn't top-post. ;-)

Re: email notification when someone responds to your post in a newsgroup?

You all REALLY have to get over your hang up regarding top-posting. Extreme
type-A personality meets anonymous USENET user = angry and childish
responses. Personally, I don't do it anymore myself, cuz I don't want to
hear people complain, but the MS Outlook Express default is to top-post the
reply. If the question was short as well as the answer, the point is moot.
The reader will differentiate between the OP and the reply by ">"
characters...

It was a joke, son.

It wasn't aimed at you Daave, so much as it was to the others. I don't mind
a "please consider bottom-posting" suggestion every now and then, but a
childish rant about it using up valuable USENET space is annoying.

You see, the person you responded to, I assume, is someone I have
already killfiled, so I didn't see that post. And since you gave no
indication as to what the context was (you had snipped *everything*!),
it appeared that you were replying to PA Bear! Then Unknown chimed in
with a blank post. Damian came in with a silly rejoinder, and I was
replying directly to him with a wry comment of my own.

A bit of silliness for sure, but it helps divert my attention from much
more serious concerns.

Re: email notification when someone responds to your post in a newsgroup?

And you're replying to...? (G*d, I hope it was me! I'll top-post if and
when I want to. If you don't like it, don't crosspost to MS newsgroups.)

Better to top-post than not quote! <eg>
