TS Licensing Issues

I'm very green to TS and this is my first TS deployment.

I thought everything was good to go. I added our 10 licenses as per user
CALs since we have 6 users that may jump between 12 different computers.

The CALs are installed and I thought everything was good to go since
everyone was connecting w/o a problem.

Today I was told they are getting a message when they login that their
license expires in 4 days. So I went to the Terminal Service Licensing
window. Sure enough it shows a bunch of Temporary Licenses issued and 10 User
CALs available.

So how do I get these user CALs tied to a specific user and get them off the
temp licenses?

You need to go into admin tools, TS configuration, and switch licensing
to Per User. Default licensing mode for terminal servers is Per Device.
The server determines what type of license is handed out, not what is
on the license server.

Thank you Jeff for the quick reply.

The Licensing is already set to Per User and has been since the start. The
Group Policy is also in place for per user.

Also the Terminal Server License Server discovery specifies the license
server.

The 19 there is from a bunch of testing early on, not clients that are using
on a regular basis.

yes that is the licensing server which really has nothing to do with
determining what is handed out. Did you look at the terminal server
itself to make sure it's in per user mode? per user licenses are not
handed out like per device licenses are. In 2003, they are neither
tracked or enforced whatsoever.

What errors are showing up in the event logs of the server?

In Terminal Services Configuration, Licensing was set (and has been set) to
Per User.

Nothing shows up in event viewer that looks like it has anything to do with
licensing.

The error comes from the users when they login, and only some users are
getting it. They are told that their license expires in 4 days.

I will try to get a screen shot of the exact error and post it here as soon
as possible.

I would try the old trick of deleting the MSLicensing key from the
registry.
