Earlier this month during T-Mobile’s Uncarrier 6.0 event, one of the changes announced was a “Test Drive” program in which T-Mobile will give potential consumers a smartphone to try for free for seven days. Now Samsung is following suit as they have announced a similar try-before-you-buy program at five locations in the U.S. Samsung will allow consumers to try out a Galaxy S 5, a Galaxy Note 3, a Samsung Gear 2 or a Samsung Gear Fit device. The trials can be done for each individual device or consumers can pair them up, say a Galaxy S 5 with a Gear 2. The packages include the devices, necessary charging cords, earbuds, a screen protector for the smartphones, and carrier service not tied to buyers’ personal accounts.
Consumers will have up to 21 days to use the devices as they ponder their investment. Like T-Mobile, Samsung will require a major credit card or debit card deposit and the devices must be returned undamaged to receive a full refund of the hold. The program is being offered through Galaxy Studio locations in Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Los Angeles, Santa Clara, and New York City. Hit the break to read the full press release from Samsung.
Samsung Launches Consumer Trial Program at Five U.S. Galaxy Studio Locations

Dallas, TX – Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC (Samsung) has introduced a new consumer trial program allowing customers to experience the latest Samsung Galaxy family of products prior to purchase. Designed to show consumers how easy it is to make the switch and create a convenience to the consumer when making a purchasing decision, Samsung’s trial program is currently being offered in five markets including New York, Los Angeles, Santa Clara, Houston and Dallas.
By removing the risk factor of committing to a device plan prior to purchase, consumers are given the convenience and accessibility to test out the latest Samsung Galaxy devices for a 21 day hassle-free trial period. Samsung also offers an exclusive premium care service that includes helpful workshops and phone support, providing consumers with assistance and benefits to help them make the most informed purchasing decision. Consumers interested in making the switch following the trial can bring their device to any Samsung Galaxy Studio for support or use Smart Switch™, which allows them to seamlessly transfer their content to a new Galaxy device.
“We realize there are many decisions when it comes to choosing the right smartphone, and we want to give consumers a risk-free opportunity to engage and connect with our products,” said Melissa McNutt, senior manager of experiential marketing at Samsung Telecommunications America. “Our trial program offers consumers the convenience and accessibility to explore and test Samsung Galaxy products in their own environment, enabling them to experience the incredible things they can do with our products and make educated decisions prior to purchase.”
Samsung’s trial program allows consumers to experience the latest smartphones including the Galaxy S® 5 and Galaxy Note® 3, as well as the Samsung Gear™ 2 and Samsung Gear™ Fit. Consumers can either bundle a smartphone and Gear together or rent the devices separately. Smartphone packages include the device, carrier service not tied to their personal account, a screen protector, a USB charging cord and Samsung earbuds, while Samsung Gear rentals include the device, charging cradle and the charging cord*.
