Interesting writeup. I don't know about PCWorld, but numerous blogs and
online technical publications are warning people not to switch to Vista
yet, because of the kinds of problems you have experienced. But some
people are using Vista without problems, and others continue to swear by
it even when it causes them a lot of trouble.

I suspect that behind the rosy press releases, Microsoft is mounting an
insane effort to get Vista fixed ASAP. A year from now, new computers
with Vista pre-loaded will probably work fine.

BUT, that doesn't necessarily mean there is, or ever will be, a
compelling reason to get Vista... and that's really the single biggest
"problem" with Vista, IMO. Microsoft's customers will spend a lot of
money and suffer a lot of aggravation, just to get back to the level of
performance they took for granted with XP.

Well cozzmo, many here are Vista lovers. While they love and defend it,
they don't offer much technical help, if any.

What you need to do if you are actually looking for help here is post a
question, with a subject that includes the question as well. Better yet,
see if there's a more specific group for your question (if you had one).

I understand that you hadn't asked a question on how to fix something,
and what happens is when you make a post like yours, all the MS fanbois
come out of the closet and reply to you telling you Vista is the future,
it's your fault for not researching enough, it's different than XP,
therefore, this is the best one, 'you have to learn how to use Vista
properly'...the list goes on and on.

If you look thru this newsgroup, you'll notice that posts written as I
described before, with an actual single question, get replies that
actually _try_ to help. Posts that are venting frustrations about Vista
are not welcome here to the fanbois. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot
that have a thorough enough knowledge of Vista here, as this is a general
group.

"downloads" and select the "Update" wow must have taken me a whole minute to
find it.

are running just fine.
And oh, btw, I'm personally running the latest, Vista compatible version
of Nero.

Do you really know that you can get Nero 6.x to work with Vista or are
you just saying this?

I went to Nero's site, it will allow an upgrade to nero 6.6 which is
not Vista capable.
In other words, you need to spend to replace your software with 7.0 or
8.

Nero 6.6 Ultra works with Windows Vista as it did with all the later
Beta versions of Windows Vista.

What I did:
Copy the Nero CD to the hard drive and install from there.
Open Nero StartSmart.
Click "Nero Product Center" button.
Click the "Check now" button.
You are informed which modules you need. with an option to download
some or all.

I downloaded, saved them all and burned them to CD.

I get some error messages when opening Nero 6, but I can burn data,
ISOs, view DVDs etc.
Eventually I will replace with something compatible with Windows
Vista, but for now Nero 6 works.

not work. But you can burn CD's

Has anyone ever gotten this to work, or is it a really bad Vista
