Email Flooding

My filter (very simple):
Any mail from people in my address book stay
Everything else is put in a folder I call "Junk", which I delete about twice a day (it gets big quick).

If anyone wants to send me something, theyd better be on my list or they dont get through. If I sign up for something new (like a Credit Card service), then I have to scan the Junk folder for a little while to catch all their emails and add them to my filter.

This is the "I only keep what Im sure I want" filter - everything else is Junk by default as opposed to most filters which try to spot the junk.

Sigh.. Im still waiting for my Hotmail account to get 250 MB...

In either case - Im gonna switch to gmail ( <doh> I havent gotten an invite yet </doh> ). The junk mail filters in hotmail REALLY suck. Half the time they get rid of NEEDED mail, and think junk mail is normal ;). The only real reason I use msn is for convenience - Im on MSN Messenger 24/7 and it notified me when I get mail <not that this is a help... every once in a while I get conecutive boxes saying " You have 1 new email message " "You have 2 new email messages" ...etc within like 5 seconds of each other.

I hope the junk mail filters on gMail are good :-D!

I also hope that mails from your contacts go to one folder - and mails from people that COULD be your contacts go to another folder and junk mail goes to... your junk mail folder.

In response to the previous post... I dont really think thats possible o_O.
Edit: I meant the post before that one - the one where he said email accounts could change their "adress".

Woah. I just got gmail :-D. Obviously I havent gotten any junk mail yet :).
I think ill use hotmail for my mailing lists (cuz im always on Messenger and I can receive updates such as "you have just received a new mail from...", and gmail for personal mail :-D... wow :)

So far so good - the only quirky thing i noticed is that the interface is plain, but hey im not complaining -> less loading time ;p.

My ISP address has become all but useless, getting upwards of 1500 or so spam messages per week. I have switched to a Gmail account and it has been blissfully spam-free for the few months I have had it (since June 16). I must make sure not to publically display it, however, at least not in a bot-readable way.

My ISP allow me to change my email address right online.

My last email address was receiving 500 spam per day... so I warned all my friend and taked note of all "subscription" to website I would like to keep (GameSpot, Code Project, etc...) and I switched it to a new one.

No more spam... and everything work. Nice no ?

I havent received any spam since... 6 month... at least !!!!

These spoofed address are easy to beat...dont know if hotmail will allow you to do this, but in the IP header information is the IP address from which the mail generates. They can spoof the email address all they want, but the IP address will be the same; block that IP address and youll never have that problem again, at least from that sender. I have about 45 IPs blocked on our exchange server at work... our spam is at an all time low.... previously they were blocking the from address and had a list that went on for days (because they were spoofed). Also a lot of ISPs are willing to work with you when you have there IP address because they have there own filters set up (that they dont tell you about) to try and catch some of it for you. When you can send them the IPs rather than the email address, they can actually add the IP to their list and then it will never reach you. Almost every ISP Ive dealt with allows you to report spam, and if you give them the IP, they are rather quick about blocking it at their servers. IPs can be spoofed too, but it takes a little more initiative and talent than 90% of these kids who do this crap are capable of doing.
