Who wants Gmail?

Im not sure if you have invites or not :confused: but if you did, when you log in to check your mail there would be a red hyperlink at the top that says Invite X friends to GMAIL where X is the number of invites.
 
It seems people are concerned with privacy ("OH NO A COMPUTER IS READING MY MAIL!!"). But I do understand now that since hotmail/yahoo have upgraded people arent seeing the need for gmail anymore. Hey, all I needed was roughly 10 MB. 2 MB was torture for me. So I guess people are now saying "Why the hell do I need 1 GB when I can keep my existing account which has enough, 250 MB".

Since there is nothing in my mail ever worth reading (I normally just send pictures [they are worth 1,000 words]) I really could care less....And if it wants to search my pictures..go ahead!

I have 3 hotmail accounts, so i dont actually need gmail anymore myself. Just curious into its workings.

Incidentally i am using about 5mb of my main hotmail account, thats keeping every mail (excluding ones with attachments + junk) since about 1998.

Ive read the long line of posts on this subject. It was interesting getting everyones take on gmail.

For my part, as soon as someone invited me I jumped on the gmail bandwagon and never looked back.

If youve read this thread then youve seen PGs info on what gmail has to offer. I will, however, add my comment on 1GB of space and the search capability. With 1GB I am not worried about signing up for every email list for which I have the remotest interest - and I have a lot of interests. The 1GB coupled with the search ability puts me pretty much in heaven.

My philosophy, which permeates my life both professional and private, is that if you have the data then you can look at it; if you dont have the data you can not look at it. You can not predict the future value of data. You can predict that if you dont save data then you will need it in the future in a most desperate way. Folks at work (I am a developer) that think my ideas are silly invariably come asking for that email they deleted a while back, or for that source file that I backed up from the mainframe to my pc, or for the system logs that I backed up so they can do the trend analysis, etc.

Now....if you dont have space then you dont have space. But, if you do have space (and especially a really good search engine) then it is silly not to save the data.

That said - I currently have 5 invites for gmail. :cool:
