Re: Media Player 11 Crashes on launch

shouldn't be possible to keep getting the same crash. What's the current
exact crash data:

I'm not seeing anything useful for that crash - it looks like at this point
you would want to contact actual support. =\

Re: Media Player 11 Crashes on launch

I have, I did find that it is not a WMP11 error but a DRM problem, I
downloaded a program (Overdrive) from my local library to be able to listen
to audio books & it crashes just like WMP when I gets to the DRM part.

I am betting my DRM file a currupted some where some how.

Thanks for you help

Re: Media Player 11 Crashes on launch

OK, so you want to reset your DRM cache at this point--
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#indiv
, but can't? Even if you shut down all applications and stop the Windows
Media Player Network Sharing Service service?

Did you follow the KB article here?
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#indiv
The files are hidden by default, so you wouldn't expect to see anything
normally.

Re: Media Player 11 Crashes on launch

Crude but effective.

I had the same problem as the O.P., same errors, same lack of
effectiveness of the various cures offered. My problem started after I
had to restore my Vista system volume from a back-up image. Everything
looked perfect, but WMP11 would crash instantly upon launch.

Nothing worked until I moved the entire folder
c:/programdata/microsoft/windows/DRM to the desktop, and renamed it so
windows wouldn't recognize it. This folder includes a cache subfolder,
which was moved out with its parent.

I then restarted MediaPlayer. Works fine. So does everything else (so
far) that accesses Vista DRM.

I don't have any licensed media, nor do I use a media library, so this
caused me no problems. WMP simply generates a new folder in place of the
old one, with blackbox.bin and other default files in it.

Good luck. This solved my problem...hope others find similar results.
