Well, that does indeed help, since you're obviously using an outdated
Windows Update Agent. Try downloading and installing the most recent
version of WUA:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/W...one/7.0.6000.381/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

Bye,
Freudi

Re: please help error 0x800703e3

well nothing happened!!:(
that's the problem actually, i can't download any windows update agents, it
shows error 0x800703e3
and it stops the process.
any other ideas tha can help me?

Pardon? At least the "WU client version" shouldn't be 5.8.0.2469 any
longer after applying WUA 3.0. You may like to download the
WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe linked above once again. Do *not* excute
the EXE yet but *save* the file into a folder named "Downloads" on your
Drive C:. Afterwards type or copy&paste the following into "Run" in the
Start menu:
"C:\Downloads\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" /wuforce
After that hit the [Enter] key or click on OK and restart Windows finally.

In case that doesn't help, please provide us the list of entries to be
found in msconfig and the System Start tab there (Start -> Run ->
msconfig [Enter/OK]).

Bye,
Freudi

Re: please help error 0x800703e3

hello once again!!
i can't dowload WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86 no matter what i do.
i mean, i can dowload the .exe file but when i choose to run the file
finally, it stops the process after copying the files and says "the dowload
process failed with error 0x800703e3"
so,i can't dowload the updated version.
The second thing you told me to do, that with the msconfig, i am not sure i
did it right and i don't understand exactly what entries should i provide
you. So i still don't know what to do. If you could explain me a little more
what should i do with the "msconfig" thing i might make it and provide the
entries you need.
Sorry if i'm a big trouble..i'm a bit desperate.
thanks in advance, you are very kind.

Re: please help error 0x800703e3

You may want to try a MowGreen [MVP] trick before installing the update,
since his advice seems to have cured your error code . It's the same advice
Freudi gave you, but with a little extra, and updated from the original:
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Click Start > Run > type in (or copy&paste)

regsvr wuaueng.dll

(note the space after regsvr)

Click OK. Now enter these one by one and click OK after each

regsvr atl.dll
regsvr wuapi.dll
regsvr wucltui.dll
regsvr wups.dll
regsvr wuweb.dll

Next, download the WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe and save it to the Desktop -
http://download.windowsupdate.com/W...one/7.0.6000.381/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

If it says "Install is not needed since Windows Update Agent is
already installed", run WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe with the command
line switch /wuforce, like this:

WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce

Click Start > Run > click the Browse button
Click the Desktop icon in the left frame
Click on WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe, then click the Open button
The command line will appear as

"C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Desktop\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe"

Click on the command and it will highlight in blue. Now left click once
after the last quotation mark "
Press the Space Bar once, then copy&paste this - /wuforce

The command will now look like -

"C:\Documents and
Settings\<UserName>\Desktop\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" /wuforce
(<UserName> is your User Account's name)
Click OK to run it.
Restart the system and try to access Windows Update once more.

Re: please help error 0x800703e3

well, something must be really wrong because not even the trick worked.
i did what you told me, click start >run > regsvr wuaueng.dll
and it told me that windows can't find the "regsvr"
so, i couldn't move on to the next steps and see what happens.
can anybody understand what is wrong with it?
is it a problem that my windows version is in greek?does it make any
difference?i didn't think so and that's why i didn't mention it before.
i don't know what else to do..:(

That's okay , since the command is regsvr32 and not regsvr. So replace
mindfully "regsvr" in Micheal's posting with "regsvr32" ;)

Nope, but that may be an important information for any further step
beyond.

Bye,
Freudi

Re: please help error 0x800703e3

i did replace it,i did what you told me to do and once again it says the
installation failed with error "0x800703e3"
so i didn't do the restart since the windows update agent 30-x86 was not
installed.
i cannot install any windows update agent because always the install failes
with that error.i also tried earlier to install windows update agent 20-x86
with the same unfortunate results.:(
....:(

Hello chrysa,

This will probably not be your solution but it is easy and can't hurt to try.

hi Engel,
i appreciate your effort to help and everybody's help in general but i am
still stuck with the problem, even though i did every single thing you told me
to do.

Re: please help error 0x800703e3

Well, if you have the XP sp2 disc, you could reinstall, then update.
There is a small collection of "0x800703e3" posters at this link:
http://tinyurl.com/6a98g
You are at the top. Nigel (the last thread there) reinstalled sp2,
and that solved it. It took a few weeks before he got desperate
enough to try that. If you can do it, don't be in any rush to do it.

I'm assuming the "Automatic Update" service is up and running (check that
via Start -> Run -> services.msc [Enter/OK]).

Okay, so now let's check the file persmissions for "wuauclt.exe" and
"wuauclt1.exe" are correct. To do so, open a command prompt via
Start -> Run -> cmd [Enter/OK]. Into the now opened command prompt,
enter the following lines and hit [Enter] after each line:

cd %windir\system32
calcs wuauclt.exe>%userprofile%\Desktop\wuauclt.txt
calcs wuauclt1.exe>%userprofile%\Desktop\wuauclt1.txt
exit

Now navigate to your Desktop where you now should find the files
"wuauclt.txt" and "wuauclt1.txt". Open each file separatly by (double)
clicking onto the files and copy&paste the contents of each file
into your reply.

Re: please help error 0x800703e3

HI AGAIN EVERYBODY,
I'm assuming the "Automatic Update" service is up and running (check that
> via Start -> Run -> services.msc [Enter/OK]).

IT IS INDEED UP AND RUNNING,I CHECKED IT.

To do so, open a command prompt via
> Start -> Run -> cmd [Enter/OK].

I DID THAT BUT WHEN I WROTE THE LINES YOU TOLD ME IT SHOWED :
FOR THE FIRST LINE : "cd %windir\system32" THE SYSTEM CANNOT RECOGNISE THIS
ROOT. FOR ALL THE OTHER LINES I ENTERED IT SAID THAT THE COMMAND "calcs" IS
NOT RECOGNISED AS A COMMAND,PROGRAMME.
SO I COULDN'T FIND THE FILES AT THE DESKTOP.
I WROTE EXACTLY WHAT YOU TOLD ME,DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG?FOR EXAMPLE THE
ROOT IN EVERY LINE I ENTERED WAS LIKE THAT:
"C:\Documents and settings\user>cd %windir\system32"
"C:\Documents and settings\user>calcs
wuauclt.exe>%userprofile%\Desktop\wuauclt.txt"
BUT WHEN I CLICKED ENTER AFTER EVERY LINE IT TOLD ME WHAT I ALREADY TOLD YOU
ABOVE.
WHAT DO YOU THING IS WRONG?:(

Ooops, my fault, it should read "cd %windir%\system32". So the
whole lines should read:

cd %windir%\system32
calcs wuauclt.exe>%userprofile%\Desktop\wuauclt.txt
calcs wuauclt1.exe>%userprofile%\Desktop\wuauclt1.txt
exit

And please stop shouting (using capital letters), thanks.

Re: please help error 0x800703e3

sorry for the capital letters at my previous message.
it doesn't recognise the "calcs" as a command or program,i tried to write
the lines like this "wuauclt.exe>%userprofile%\Desktop\wuauclt.txt" (without
"calcs") and it worked for a second,i mean i could click enter but when i saw
at the desktop no
"wuauclt.txt" or "wuauclt1.txt" were found.
i don't know what else to do.
:(

Hmpf, I'm sorry once again, "cacls" should read "cacls" :-/
So here the same procedure slightly modified ("[Enter]" means press
the [Enter] key on your keyboard):

#0
Delete any "wuauclt.txt" and "wuauclt1.txt" files on your desktop
if they are present.

#1
Start -> Run -> cmd [Enter]
A command prompt window should open now. Can you see it? If true,
continue with step #2:

#2
cd %windir%\system32[Enter]

#3
cacls wuauclt.exe>%userprofile%\Desktop\wuauclt.txt[Enter]

#4
cacls wuauclt1.exe>%userprofile%\Desktop\wuauclt1.txt[Enter]

#5
exit[Enter]

Now navigate to your Desktop where you now should (really) find the
files "wuauclt.txt" and "wuauclt1.txt". Open each file separatly by
(double) clicking onto the files and copy&paste the contents of each
file into your reply.

Good night and once again please forgive me the typos,
Freudi

Re: please help error 0x800703e3

i did all tha you told me to do once again but i can't find the
files "wuauclt.txt" and "wuauclt1.txt" at my desktop.
i'm writting exactly what you told me to, i don't know what is wrong but i
can't see or find these files.
i appreciate your patience and thanks for the time you spend trying to help
me but i don't think that the problem will be solved..nothing happens..and
it's been days and i ve done everything...:(
