Re: Nero Burning ROM updated to v7.10.1.0

I've heard of ImageBurn. I'll give it a try. Nero Micro looks interesting as
well.

Re: Nero Burning ROM updated to v7.10.1.0

I've switched over to this one:

http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/

http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/?page_id=5

Under 'other download options' you will find the one for x64 editions of
Windows.

Nice and small (under 3 MB download), works a treat for ISO images. And
it's free :-))

Re: Nero Burning ROM updated to v7.10.1.0

Charlie:
I have not checked 0.43.1.
I disregarded 0.43.0 when it rejected burning one ISO image that Nero could
burn very easily.
Anyway, for just three megs d/l and no cost, I think it is worth a follow up
on this software.
I regularly check its web page so rest assure that if there are any news
everyone in this NG will know.
Alex Feinman's ISO recorder (http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/Vista.htm)
is still the lightest, and easiest, way to burn ISO's to CD/DVD.
I wonder why he didn't release a final version yet.
Going back to Nero... well, I just install the Burning thing and Showtime (I
like it for viewing dvd's and the ac3 filter it installs for Dolby 5.1)
I even have a script for removing Nero Scout (regsvr32 /u "C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll") because there is no option
to install/uninstall it.

Oops! The Nero Scout script removal should address the Program Files (x86)
folder.

Re: Nero Burning ROM updated to v7.10.1.0

I like Alex's software, but without the ability to do a verify pass, I'm not
comfortable with it. In the old CD days, it wasn't that big an issue, but
we're definitely seeing far more bad burns these days.

Re: Nero Burning ROM updated to v7.10.1.0

Pardon, if I'm being off target - but wouldn't this be a pertinent job for a
'script'?

Comparing the data for the varying use you'll need may be a tall order, but
it's a one time effort when nobody else cared to do it!

Re: Nero Burning ROM updated to v7.10.1.0

Hmm. Certainly possible. At the most basic level, a simple CRC check of the
disk v. the ISO would be a good starting point.

Re: Nero Burning ROM updated to v7.10.1.0

CRC, I imagine, would do fine if you set up more or less random jobs, like
targeted back-up's and perhaps build some sort of temporary log file. For
ISO's you often have the benefit of a MD5 checksum that comes along with it,
or there's a command-line utility from here:

http://www.fourmilab.ch/md5/

or many other places, to create your own. So, if Alex's small wonder has a
command-line interface to convey source and target directories, you could be
smiling?

Re: Nero Burning ROM updated to v7.10.1.0

no command line, I don't think? Not sure, now that I go to actually write
that. I seem to recall he did have one for the CD version, at least. Not
sure if it made the move to Vista and DVD...

Re: Nero Burning ROM updated to v7.10.1.0

Strictly speaking, I don't think you really need it to do that - it could
possibly open avenues to more uses with less effort if it did. Most Windows
programs do have a standard command-line parser built-in that is never
documented, but the ISORecorder is unusual in many ways and Alex could've
possible removed the functionality to keep it small, but it would be more
work to set it up that way I think.
