Usually, it takes only three hot coals & 17 prayers to perform an
exorcism. Some people can do it with less-- but it is very rare more
will be needed!

I see no proof that DaffyD® is a troll. He was coming here while you
still were in the Win95 NG. And lots of good information has been posted
to this thread, even if none of it has worked quite yet. It does get
more/more doubtful what to do when the first good suggestions don't
work. That's when unlikely thoughts like an upside-down power connector
might seem reasonable!

Yes, bending plastic parts and (preferably LOTS of) 4 mm long
thin metal pins are STANDARD procedures when assembling
computers. SIGH.

Hate to break this to you, but "odd-looking" is NOT synonymous
with "will fry the floppy and power supply when plugged in".

Hate to break this to you, but "can confuse new builders" is
largely synonymous with "encourage trolls".

Prayers don't work on thanatoids, but I DO want off this earth,
so keep up the good work. Why only /4/ hot coals?

A lot of it /would/ have worked if someone had tried it on an
actual computer.

That's one way to put it.

Only DaffyD® could shove that connector (it /would/ take force)
in the wrong way. IF he had a problem with his floppy in the
first place. I tell you, he's a genius troll. You WILL agree,
although - apparently - it MAY take 2 more months of this.

Yet you guys still pamper him. He must be on his third pack of
duck diapers.

Well, (although it makes no major difference) the photo at that site
doesn't perfectly match the floppy socket I see on this SONY MPF920-Z I
pulled from a discarded ME-machine. This one has another leg to the
white plastic under the 4 metal prongs, though it is off slightly to the
right. Also, someone said, in this thread or in the other, that there is
variation in floppy plugs & sockets. (I won't open my box just to see
what my own floppy power plug looks like.)

And DaffyD® has said his has gone in both ways & never mentioned he had
to force it! I'm sure he would have said!

No, it isn't. But someone did post the metal prongs carry different
voltages. OTOH, another did post that the grounds (black wires in the
middle) might somehow prevent damage to the floppy & motherboard. I
don't know. But there is this about certain connections at the
motherboard side...

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html
All about the various PC power supply cables and connectors

I'm offline & cannot quote it precisely, but it says-- sparks may fly!

I remain unconvinced that DaffyD® is a troll. He's been here before &
been frustrated before & it hasn't turned him into a troll yet. I
estimate it will take 8 more years before it does!

They are reusable after they are spit out or come out the other end. No,
no-- SERIOUSLY...

There might be a way for prayers to work. I can believe a placebo kind
of effect can happen just by having someone pray over you or care for
you-- but I'm not qualified to do it! And there are dangers involved.
Some fakes may really just want your money. Or, you may actually be the
fake looking for something. I'm not qualified to know! And I've
forgotten all my prayers, anyhow!

Maybe post your sorry story to a new thread with a warning it may cause
our hair to fall out, & see what happens. I'm offline, or I'd look for a
more appropriate site for you. But who can trust anyone?

goes.

Not necessarily. Regular fixes don't always work. It could be a
seemingly unrelated part is at fault or that the motherboard has cracked
as glee said.

I have a friend who shoved in one/two hard drive IDE data cables
upside-down-- & THOSE definitely are shaped to go in one way! It was a
horrible bulge! (I was surprised to see all was well when I reversed
them!)

It could be a variation in the shape of floppy drive plugs made it easy
for DaffyD®. And it wasn't his idea in the first place, IIRC! It's been
a week about since he first posted I think. So, he could legitimately
have reached his 3rd pack of duck diapers-- but I don't know!

Yeah, it has been since the W95 days, hasn't yet. Your typing doesn't seem
to have aged a bit.

And, fyi, I confirmed with the computer shop the right away to plug in the
