I own Windows Vista Ultimate. My personal experience has been good, no major
problems to speak of. I will, however, say that it's very disappointing how
many people apparently have had problems. God knows I hate seeing people
flock to Mac OSX, because I hate it with a passion. But, MS had to go and
concentrate on the "look" of Vista, rather than just the usability,
stability, and compatibility issues. Real computer people don't care about
"Aero" type of visuals...just give us something we can work with that doesn't
require a lot of upscale hardware. Make it easy, functional, and above all,
not annoying. I changed a LOT of the basic setup on my Vista setup, because
I could care less about the bells and whistles that only suck the life from
my system. Let the Mac losers have their "pretty", yet annoying OSX.
Don't make Windows "pretty", just make it solid and usable. PLEASE keep this
in mind for Vista's successor......and for God's sake, don't wait 7 years to
produce it, or we might live in a *gasp* Mac-centric world. That would
really suck...

Don't go there. I told you a million times already.
He is waiting on Windows 7, which will be better and hopefully faster than
this one.
I agree ubuntu has a pretty inteface. It could be better if they put it all
on DVD with a multimedia center and drivers for graphic chips, sound cards,
and multimedia video cards

It's difficult to see what the problem is. Vista defaults to bells and
whistles which, for the most part can be turned off as you have done.

So, as Vista is supplied, you are happy because you had the option not to
have the bells and whistles, and those who like the bells and whistles are
happy too..

Wrong. Wrong answer. That is so stupid. If he doesn't like Vista then he
can use XP. Simple solution. All his applications will still work with XP.
He doesn't need some dumb-a$$ toy like Ubuntu that would cripple his
productivity.

Re: With 7 years to work, how can things be so bad?

the bells and whistles are welcome if you have an underlying platform that
is good...

Vista is very far from being good. The best it could be, is "tolerated"

I turned off UAC and the machine speed up in booting and running
programmings.
It's UAC that's causing problems.

Is this just some wishful thinking, or do you have some kind of inside scoop
on Windows 7 ... where it's at in its development, what it's capable of
doing, etc. etc? You can hope all you want, but that won't necessarily make
it so. Microsoft had years to put out Vista and look at the mess they came
up with. :-)

Cheers.

Vista is the very best OS avaialble today. That you don't know that is
not at all surprising.
Your Vista hate campaign didn't work did it capin' crunch...LOL!
I told you you were fighting a battle that you'd already lost.
Only real losers do that.

Re: With 7 years to work, how can things be so bad?

What I believe or not about vista is irrelevant... I have no agenda and no
wish to persuade anyone.

You can go on saying Im a vista hater all your life, but you will still be
wrong.
Its easier for you to add a "vista hater" label onto me than to handle my
multi-dimensional, and I must say very intelligent, views about computing in
general. I like Microsoft more than you... but that cannot compute in your
feebleminded brain can it?

You want something simple to drag your club at and start swinging at....
lol, Yes frank is the label giver of the newsgroup.

Its the people and mostly the companies who decide the fate of vista

Most people hate it, and all serious companies are avoiding it.

The internet is full of this evidence.. you can only find a few people
trying to persuade
the masses that "vista works for me"

That is a *very* good answer.

I just got through writing a letter to my sister and was talking about my
new laptop and Vista etc., and was telling her that the most I could find to
like about Vista were just a few minor GUI issues and that I was still using
it just because it was "there".

In other words, that it was because it came with the laptop and I paid $$
for it with the laptop and didn't have a choice at purchase time.

It was just 'there' and I had been trying to force myself to like it.

But that if I could find some XP drivers for my Acer laptop, I was probably
going to go back to XP. And maybe actually enjoy the laptop isntead of
tolerating it.

I hadn't thought of the word "tolerate", but that is the right word.

In 25 years, I've used lots of OS's, but Vista is the only one that I've
tolerated.... If I didn't like the OS (Dos4, Win3.0, WinME, whatever), then
I simply didn't use it. Until Vista.

It may be the best OS, but it has the worst GUI and user experience.

Vista has absolutely none of the user enjoyment that Win95, Win98, WinXP
(sp0, sp1, sp2) caused.

It's flashy, but that's about it.

Re: With 7 years to work, how can things be so bad?

Something else I did was download every update from the downloads page at
Microsoft.
I use the software. I use it for programming and multimedia.

Re: With 7 years to work, how can things be so bad?

I consider myself lucky that I will never be confinded to Vista only on a
computer...

I will make sure all my computers will be compatible with linux and older or
newer versions of windows than vista...

Vista will be rememberd as a dark time in MS history, when it turned its
back to the public
and users.

So much arrogance.... what troubles me is that Windows7 doesnt seem yet to
offer anything spectacular.. sure there is minwin a smaller kernel

but there is no other evidence of them reacting to all the complaints of the
people...

and companies!

Yeh, but ... UAC is Microsoft's answer to computer security.

Cheers.

Oh? Then google yourself and all of your itinerations and explain what
all of those Vista hate postings were about.

You made your own label long ago capin' crunch. It's yours to die with.

There you go again...that is simply your opinion and not at all true.

Bullsh*t! You're blinded by your Vista hate and your opinion is not at
all supported by the masses or any statistical data...period!
Live with the truth and stop deluding yourself.
Grow up!
