Not for me, it isn't. Vista has worked well on my single core three year old
machine, every bit as good as XP did.. I wouldn't want to go back to XP..

That's right. Its from Africa.
Its Debian, actually, and not very good. Been there. Done that.

Lets see...

enough proof for you
that I want to help people.

Maybe the *core* of vista, the lernal and a few other bits, are okay. Maybe
at its core, Vista is okay.

But that's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about the GUI and the general user experience.

And it sucks dead bunnies.

When I got my laptop 3 months ago, I hadn't used Vista before. So it was a
new experience.

Yes, I like some of the flashy gui bits. The live icons. Solitaire is
prettier. And so on.

Some of the changes over XP are good. The control panel is better
organized, and so on.

But as a whole.... it sucks.

For 15 gig of disk space (and laptops don't have massive drives to begin
with) and the amount of memory it consumes, and how much Acer charged me for
an OEM copy of Windows... I want more.

I want the same kind of enjoyment I got with Win95, 98, XP, etc. Not the
same kind of 'fun' I had with DOS 4 or WinME.

I definetly feel cheated.

Until the word "tolerated" was used a while ago, I had not realized that is
what I had been doing.

I was tolerating Vista.

I had reached a point where I was trying to force myself to like Vista. And
I had been hoping that at least changing a few minor colors might make it
less unpleasent.

I shouldn't have to.

I think Microsoft ought offer a free copy of XP for everybody who doesn't
like Vista.

"The name of the distribution comes from the southern African concept of
ubuntu which may be rendered roughly as "humanity toward others", "we
are people because of other people", or "I am who I am because of who we
all are", though other meanings have been suggested. This Linux
distribution is named Ubuntu as it is expected to bring the spirit of
Ubuntu to the software world. Ubuntu is free software and users can
share it among each other."

Two weeks ago when I was off line for 6 hours.
I think I will try CentOS 5.1 instead.

I don't blame people for migrating to the Mac. It has an absolute dream
of an OS, no registry and no blatant security problem to deal with. It
also has excellent software to replace anything Microsoft offers, good
response and speed from the operating environment and excellent
third-party hardware support. The fact that programs are so easy to
install and remove will please a lot of newbies. The fact that you're
not left scratching your head for half a day while using your computer
will please the experts. Honestly, the only problem Apple has is the
fact that it charges way too much for what it offers and to me, that is
entirely unacceptable.

However, Windows Vista is a great OS for anyone who knows what he is
doing with his computer. It supports all of the software that you would
want it to, it is fairly responsive, it is familiar and it offers just
the right level of customization. You can make it look like Windows 95
or go for the futuristic look to please your senses however you wish.
However, it IS slow and it DOES eat too much memory for what it
accomplishes. In other words, both environments do have their merits
even though, even as a Windows user, I give the edge to Apple. Mac OS X
allows you to get up and running in mere minutes and allows you to do
actual work.. there is no reason for anyone who is not a fan of BS to be
using anything other than a Mac... unless he simply doesn't have the
deep pockets Jobs wants him to have.

Linux is the one that sucks though. Sure it is improving, but I find it
hard to believe that so-called experts are surprised that nobody is
using it as their main OS. Did they really expect people to permanently
migrate to an OS where just installing a graphics driver is an exercise
in frustration? Did they think that people would enjoy permanently using
a system where even after you're done installing a program, you're still
not sure if you did the right thing or whether you screwed up royally?
