What can we conclude from that, Dave, with reference to 'nellie'?

Re: eav antivirus

Hello:

It's curious that CNet gives this "product" a 3 out of 5 star rating (at:
http://www.cnet.com/topic-software/eav-software.html ), but then doesn't
even provide a review on the product detail page (at:
http://www.download.com/EAV-Antivir...0-2239_4-10358025.html#editorsreview?tag=dl.1 )
..

For a recent, more thorough, but quite negative review of EAV, see
http://www.habibbijan.com/2007/12/0...ams-part-vi-eav-antivirus-suite-free-edition/ .

For the beginning of the above series of reviews of freeware anti-virus
programs, see:
http://www.habibbijan.com/2007/12/18/an-overview-of-free-antivirus-programs-multi-part-series/ .

However, keep in mind, that only a few programs still support Win 98/ME.

Avast! Home edition has stated that they will continue to support Win98/ME
in the current beta v4.8 and the v5.0 in development, although not all
features will be supported on these older platforms. For example, the
"Network Shield" feature, introduced in v4.5, only supports NT-based
systems.

AVG Free says that support for v7.5 and Win98/ME will continue through
August 2008. It's likely that v8.0 Free Edition will be released in the next
several months, and it only supports Won 2000 and up.

AntiVir dropped support for it's Win 98/ME products in mid-2007.

BitDefender v10. Free Edition is still available and supports Win 98/ME,
although v10 has been superseded by v. 2008. And the BitDefender Free
edition does not have a real-time on-access scanner, just an on-demand
scanner. However, it is still useful to scan as a second opinion.

For what it's worth ....

Cheers,
O.J.

Re: eav antivirus

Hi Dave:

I saw your previous posting describing the analysis that you did to conclude
that EAV AV is malware, but I didn't understand your analysis.

Could you please explain what your analysis of EAV AV meant and why it means
that it's malware?

I'm not debating your conclusion, only confessing my ignorance about such
matters.

Thanks,
O.J.

Basically I downloaded the so-called EAV Anti Virus and I extracted the files from the
installer.

I submitted the files to Virus Total which produced the results.

I then went to the vendors web site and downloaded other files from the author/vendor of EAV
Anti Virus and I got similar results.

None of their software can be trusted!

Hi Again Dave:

Thank you for both your explanation and your analysis and warning about this
junk!
