Re: (Mart)Re: Malware help please

I tought about just updating this one..I use it frequently..I dont do online
gaming with other *gamers*..
I just like to play basic games that are usually one person..such as
gamehouse or realarcade....those types...
I cant ..stand...vista....I have dealt with it because all the new pc's seem
to come with it and Ive used my brothers who all have vista..and Im
absolutely lost ..lol
I am more familiar with XP..but as youve said..most dont seem to come with
it anymore..
I actually lucked out and have never had too many issues with ME..but I do
want to get rid of it..
I was wondering if I could do it with this pc..just havent tried...I would
have to have someone do that also..as I dont
know how to change an OS....
I have just been keeping my eyes open for a deal...Ive seen some decent
prices..but then I wonder about the specs...and I just dont trust asking the
sales reps anymore....they arent very truthful

Re: (Mart)Re: Malware help please

Re: (Mart)Re: Malware help please

Your solution seems to be, to find a trustworthy pc-tech in your
neighborhood.
If that's not possible, you may have to be guided by suggestions from the
'pro's' here, like Mart or Mike, if they are so inclined, or someone else,
if you're lucky.
Hope you will be,

Harry.

Re: (Mart)Re: Malware help please

Re: (Mart)Re: Malware help please

Can't really help you much further Tarcia, except to remind you that :-

1. If you want to upgrade (presumably to XP) then you'll need to confirm
that your existing PC is capable and compatible. Make and Model of existing
PC? Speed of CPU? (at least several hundred to 1000 MHz) Size of Memory
(RAM)? (256 - 512MB or more!)

2. You'll still need to replace your failing HDD

3. You'll need to purchase a copy of XP

4. You'll still have an old PC (How old is it anyway?)

5. You are (probably) well out of Warranty

6. Cost of a "Trusty" Techie (Thanks Harry) who is even prepared to
undertake the work

7. Will he be willing to maintain/support it? - At what price??

Offset those thoughts (and costs) against a 'Brand New' PC with 2 yrs
warranty - probably with an LCD monitor and (even if it does come with
Vista - and I'm sure you could eventually get used to it <g>) a current
(supported) operating system.

> I have just been keeping my eyes open for a deal...Ive seen some decent
> prices..but then I wonder about the specs...

Prices rather than 'specs' are probably the better indicator for most low to
medium end users. Competition is high - especially at High Street stores and
major (on-line?) retailers. No matter what brand name, most bits are made in
the far east and possibly in the same factories.

BTW - I'm not sure if Vista lets you set up in "Classic Mode" - similar
look, to Win9x - as XP does. Perhaps a Vista user may confirm?

Good after bad! - Not a great contest <g>
