The following link is the forum for AutoPatcher for Win98SE which
follows the progress of the software since its creation in August
2006.
http://www.msfn.org/board/Auto-Patcher-For-Windows-98se-English-t80800.html.

The following link is to the website of the creator of AutoPatcher for
Win98SE.
http://soporific.dsleague.com/main/?page_id=7

As I wrote (before the removal of my contribution from this subject),
I am a non-techie, no nothing about the 98SE update regime, kept 98SE
up to date until July/06, because I still want to use it. I gave an
emphatic "USE AT YOUR OWN RISK" warning to anyone wanting to try
AutoPatcher, backup your "C" drive with Norton Ghost or alternative. I
then "TOOK THE PLUNGE", installing the complete earlier Oct/07 version
of AutoPatcher, then installing the "Essential Components" section of
the most recent version of AutoPatcher (which updates to February/08).
My "non-techie" opinion is that my computer, my Win98SE OS has never
run better. That's all I know, maybe I just got lucky.

I am also using the highly controversial Revolution Pack 7.11 (which
comes as a manual install in the AutoPatcher package) which transforms
the legacy appearance of 98SE into either XP or Vista. I am currently
running a contemporary, quite exciting Vista theme, wallpaper, icons
etc. The installation of RP7.11 carries a "USE WITH EXTREME CAUTION",
MIGHT HAVE TO RE-INSTALL 98SE" warning, can really screw up your
machine. Perhaps I just got lucky again but it works great for me, the
look of Vista + the complete update of 98SE, this naive non-techie
feels like he is enjoying computing again in an exciting new way. JUST
MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN!!

Re: How do you update Windows 98?

Lying brown-noser of the worst kind.

That last sentence is pure BS, the same BS you dish up month after month,
year after year. True in the individual words, but only in the most
contrived sense of those words, with your artful little habit of leaving out
important details and context.

You're a lawyer, right?

Re: How do you update Windows 98?

The "updates and installs" are grouped by modules, most of which contain
many components. You cannot choose individual components, patches, whatever,
to install, unless the entire module happens to consist of one component.
That makes your statement a lie.

Re: How do you update Windows 98?

That would be 120+ Updates and Hotfixes (which are unknown until the author
gets around to making a list.) Other items are marked Optional, and that is
good, but en masse installation of 120+ patches including whatever some
stranger decides are good for Win98, with no chance of uninstalling
successfully...

Nope, that doesn't even pass the smell test. FAILED!

In the same manner that nothing I penned was at the
time of composition intended to provide any manner
of "hint", a corpse discovered at the scene of a murder
isn't left there or meant as a clue. But it could hardly
be either missed by a competent investigator, or the
concept itself more demonstrably lost on someone
of your tragically inadequate talents (which you've
risibly donned as some misguided badge of honor).

Re: How do you update Windows 98?

Kindly point out where I've claimed that ALL patches and
ALL updates are seperately installable and uninstallable.

By your own admission, a user can choose to install (and
again, by your own earlier admission, components can be
selected for uninstallation) or not install a module. So just
which is it, as I've earlier addressed, given your many
thoroughly failed, unconvincing deceits, (or are they simply
errors) you're an obtuse incompetent or a pathological liar,
and which do you deem constitutes the better excuse?

Re: How do you update Windows 98?

Hey, I know you're a liar. That's an easy one. That being established, none
of that other crap matters.

I take "people" at "face value" in this NG. It's what you write, not who you
are. If you want to wear a mask, that's your that's YOUR game, not mine.
Frankly, it doesn't matter if you're Thanatoid, 98 Guy, or some other troll,
or ANYONE else, for that matter. Based upon your writings, you are a lying
weasel. 'Nuff said.

More disgusting sophistry.

No, the user can choose "modules" to install, some (the most important) of
which contain hundreds of components that are installed on an all-or-nothing
basis. Only certain components can be unnistalled from Add/Remove Progrrams,
and I suppose I could go digging and figure out how to uninstall a few
others, but the major modules containing Updates, HotFixes, and Unofficial
stuff of all kinds are uninstallable for the most part.

I don't recall "admitting" that the app could uninstall anything, only that
I'd heard someone else claim it was so, and that I highly doubted it. Having
actually used the POS, and after further reading, I realize that it includes
no functions to uninstall anything. At least, its literature and menus make
no mention of the possibility.

So, having actually used the steaming heap, I can only reaffirm that it
truly is a dangerous abortion that only a fool would use and only an a**hole
would recommend. I can also affirm that you're a lying weasel.

Now, time to go flatten that machine and get it back to normal.
