Re: How to recover the address bar in taskbar in Windows XP SP3?

Hi,
I'm a Vista user, but at work when I used Windows XP SP3 I also noted
the explorer Adress Bar to be gone.

It is very easy to get it back.

1. Right click and drag My computer from the startmenu, to the top of
the desktop so it formes a bar there.

2. Rightclick the newly formed bar > toolbars > adress bar

3. The adress bar does now exist in the my computer bar. Drag it to the
desktop.

4. Now drag it in its original position on the taskbar.

You will also note the Adress Bar option returned to your menu. 100%
fixed! Thank me later!

This solution is available everywhere on the web, but you forgot to
mention it vanishes after a reboot and has to be done again.

This is a great solution - thanks! All earlier functionality has returned:

- UNC paths work.
- URLs resolve into my default browser (Firefox) which completely
invalidates the "Legal Arguments" quoted elsewhere.
- Previously-defined "TweakUI" search shortcuts work
- EVERYTHING WORKS AGAIN without upsetting WFP

This is exactly what we tried to do. Glad you appreciate it!

Thanks for the comment.

I found this addressbar for XP3 online, and it has worked for me, even
better than the original.

Re: How to recover the address bar in taskbar in Windows XP SP3?

I tried using this but it not only didn't work but seems to have screwed up
my display. I uninstalled and it did not correct it, I now also get a
windows explorer error upon start up. (this was on a brand new lenovo X61)

The problem it made was that the screen is much darker compared to the
original output. suggestions on how to fix this now?

Re: How to recover the address bar in taskbar in Windows XP SP3?

Did you do this:

To uninstall:

1. Use the Add/Remove program dialog to remove AddressBar for Windows XP SP3
2. Log off and back on or reboot

3. Start Menu, Run: regsvr32 /u c:\windows\system32\addressbar.dll
4. Log off and back on or reboot
5. Delete c:\windows\system32\addressbar.dll

Re: How to recover the address bar in taskbar in Windows XP SP3?

I used the address bar for A LOT for a lot of different reasons so thank you
for the workaround, it work perfectly so far.

I dont get why a feature of a browser offered by the same company who made
the OS is an antitrust issue when anyone can easily disable it if they wished.

Why it was there for more than 7 years before it was told to be taken out?
AFTER Vista came out?! JUST before XP loses support??!!

lets all thank Europe for its backwards legal system.

Re: How to recover the address bar in taskbar in Windows XP SP3?

Google Desktop allows you to search your desktop for anything... But more
relevant to this conversation hitting Ctrl Ctrl pops up a little window that
acts like an enhanced Address Bar. You can search your desktop or the web
from it or you can type in a URL and it will open in your default browser. I
never used it for the URL (didn't think about it) until after my Address Bar
disappeared. It's actually easier to use than the Address Bar was. So
thanks Microsoft for helping me find a better way to work.

Long Live Google

Re: How to recover the address bar in taskbar in Windows XP SP3?

not everyone wants to install software to replace something that is already a
part of the OS though...

search.... check.
open url from address bar... check.

Windows (live) Desktop Search is the competitive counterpart of Google
desktop which both have their uses I guess but google desktop is pretty
cool.. Id rather not have an Indexing service eating all my memory so Ill
never use either of them.

Simplicity is good :)
Adressbar restored is even gooder :D

RE: How to recover the address bar in taskbar in Windows XP SP3?

Hi,

I just installed the CNET program and it works.

Kind of anoying though to add extra software to use a feature that was there
before.

Can anybody tell why they removed it?

Regards
