Hi Hubert :)

Are you implying/suggesting that by visiting the newsgroups to investigate unusal events occuring on
their computers, folk end up with even worse malware on their machines?

At least, when I look to the discussion, I feel no more secure to click on
that link or another one. It seems to be general when discussion is about
virus, not only in this group. Although, I thought first that it would be
something else by Microsoft.

Thank you for your reply, Hubert. :)

I strongly suspect that the majority of folk who come to these groups do so when they have a major
disaster with their computer. In consequence they will, I'm sure, be focused simply on their own
immediate problem and rarely do as I have done - stay and watch for the long term!

You may possibly have noted that some here do not like my views! <wink>

Methinks it may be that they have something to hide - but who really knows?

It was for this reason that I initiated the thread you will find here in full:-
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/mi...df3d1e14b?hl=en&q=The+newbies+dilemma&lnk=ol&

It starts off like this:-
How can anyone visiting here for the first time have *any* idea that they
will receive good ........ or bad .......... advice?

I thought at first that the TechNet Communities must be monitored by
Microsoft staff and therefore be relatively safe. I'm still not sure about
that. Having come here (for ease of use, on someone's advice) it appears
that *no* such protection applies and that it really is a 'free-for-all' and
is, quite likely, a dangerous place to visit.

This may not have always been so - and I do wish to stress that I HAVE
received some excellent and helpful advice, much of which has enabled me to
help myself more and better understand my PC and its' software. I have also
learnt a great deal about 'malware' and how to deal with it.

PCButts1 - some while ago now - explained to me how effective it is to run
HiJackThis and then copy and paste a specific entry directly into Google.
Here's an example - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher]
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"

Try it for yourself. I got 66,800 responses which can be reviewed at
leisure. <g>

What I have NOT found is other people who are trying to find out who
*perpetrates* the 'malware' in the first place - no-one seems to care. I do!

So, in spite of comments like that of 'Fitz' elsewhere on this group, and also having been
'warned-off'' having contact with PCButts1 by Kerry Brown and David H
Lipman, I'm grateful for PCB's help. Perhaps he's one of the good guys after
all, but only experience here will tell. I'm glad I'm not a newbie any more!

Re: Some history for newbies!

Tom...my apologies for replying to you instead of Boater Dave but I long ago
kill filed him and just noticed my nick mentioned in this thread. Therefore
these comments are directed to Boater Dave.

My advice to Boater Dave is that there is no "Internet Police" and people
must use common sense and the knowledge of the experts in these groups to
determine the best course of action on any given question. You can find out
who is an expert by checking their posts, professionalism in their answers
and various websites. As I told you before, Google is your friend.

I, and others, have indeed cautioned people against downloads from pcbutts
site. If you think butts is an expert and one of your so called "good
guys", then by all means you should download his programs, take any advice
he offers and Hi Yo Silver. Personally, I find this sort of internet site
and the operator of the site (http://XXX.pcbutts1.com/downloads/license.htm)
disgusting but perhaps you do not. Each to his own. The site doesn't
really inspire my trust.

These newsgroups are for help...not social networking.
http://www.strikeitup.com/rencontre/boaterdave/ is for social networking.

Cheers.

Re: Some history for newbies!

Because you can make up any link you like does not make it good. Why do you
keep a history of links and posts I've made? those are from years ago. Are
you obsessed with me like Leythos? Are you going to start stalking me in the
open this time like Leythos does? you already do with the number of emails
you send to people. Why are you a sick phuck to have to to stalk people in
the newsgroups? Is that all you've got left to do. You still have not
explained this
http://www.google.com/search?source...US265&q=David+H.+Lipman+Troll+Extraordinaire+
but then again that really needs no explanation. That shows just how sick
and obsessed you are with me. You will die and still not having to be able
to shut me down and I will laugh and spit on your grave. You evil phuck. You
reputation here is shot and going down hill fast since I exposed you for the
person you really are.

Ignore any posts made by the Stalker Leythos, he's still in love with me.
He started stalking me after I spurned his advances towards me.
He said he would stop Stalking me If I stopped mentioning his name.
As you can see that does not work. He is a sick obsessive STALKER.

The community keeps a copy of the filthy links, even certified copies of
the filth because it is needed - needed to prove what an unethical hack
you are, to show other that you've actually posted pornographic
materials on your website that you direct others to, that you exposed
KIDS to that filth, that YOU even claim (like you did above) to have
created it....

You are your own worst enemy in this community.

Do you really want to trust someone that was banned from posting
directly to Microsoft Usenet servers, someone that has posted links to
pornographic materials on HIS WEBSITE, who's website is in the MVP HOST
Block list, and who provides a tool for your use that will block access
to reputable anti-malware sites without telling you he's doing it?

And do you really want to trust someone that has had to change their
posting identity after being busted by MS as a fake MVP?

Stalking, even in usenet is a crime, there are enough pages from your
filthy site to prove you're stalking me in your posts, I have them
documented and certified authentic - it's your call now Stalker.

Re: Zlob.Trojan

Hiii Kayman,
I am in big trouble and need help from you all. Yesterday I got into a
trap where i was directed to download a codec to watch a sitcom
online. But that turned out to be a Zlob.P0rn.Ad Trojan. I dont know
much about these things. But suddenly I started getting pop ups
regarding security threat and it asked me to rectify the problem and
there was link which was aid to be for curing the Virus. I though I am
in a bigger trouble so i first of all checked the authenticity of that
link directed site and came to know that the link itself was the Virus
so i didn't open any more links. But I kept getting pop ups every
15-20 seconds of 3 types. 1st one said something like " there is huge
traffic of SMTP mail observed which may be because of some spyware"
2nd pop up was about " your internet connectivity is restricted
because of the same spyware problem" and 3rd was also something of
this sort. At the same time on the Desktop a shortcut of two nasty
sites also comes up on its own every time pop ups come. McAfee scan
could not find anything malicious. But the pop up kept coming at the
same rate. Then I googled about this Zlob.P0rn.Ad Trojan and came to
know that these pop ups are the real problem and should not click on
anylink given on them and i followed that instruction. Then I
downloaded Spyhunter Scanner which scanned and gave me a list of
malicious Zlob.P0rn virus location. I deleted them manually. Now also
the pop up is coming.
On the right bottom of my laptop (the place where the time and date
comes) there appears a Security Error with the symbol Red circle and a
while Cross onto that. I suspect even that one is part of virus.
Can anyone tell me how can I get rid of this big problem. I have
invested some 8-9 hours on this same problem but still have not got
anything.
Please help
Regards
Zafar
