Re: Strange Content.IE5 behavior

Hi PCR,
I went to F/F, typed in Search & Destroy, it came up with a folder in
C:\Program Files\Spybot-search & destroy. Contains 3 Files: Includes=31
objects, Plug in= 1 which says: TCPIP address.dll, Updates= 23 objects.
Should I just delete this file completely? Or what? I wanted to make sure
before I do anything.

Aha! I THOUGHT that might be so! Don't forget to check for the other one
too-- Fixes*.*. You had a lot more than I did back then! If you ever
reinstall SpyBot, turn that option off that creates them each time you
run it! Some programs are not neat & will not fully clean up on their

If you are sure you uninstalled SpyBot from this restored backup system,
& it no longer shows up in Add/Remove Programs-- then it should be safe
to delete stray folders & Registry entries.

I like to check the Registry first for mention of a folder, before
deleting files in that folder. If the folder is not mentioned, neither
will the files be mentioned. So, if the folder name is "Spybot-search &
destroy", use RegEdit's find to search for it. But you also may need to
search for the short form of that name, which is... Spybot~1.

A SFN (Short File Name) usually is made from the first 6 letters (not
including blanks) followed by ~1 (tilde and 1).

But, if two folders (or files) could qualify (by starting with the same
6 letters not counting blanks AND being in the same parent folder), then
the second one would be Spybot~2. And I think the 10th would be
Spybo~10!

You are welcome. OK. Keep us informed. And that is really, really good
that you do have a full system backup to run to! (I recently did it

PCR,
Spybot was in folder *PepiMK Software* Subfolder *Spybot SnD*. It was
the only folder there. Now what? Should I make a folder to put the stuff
from the recycle bin contents in? Or what.

"START button, Run, RegEdit, Edit menu, Find"

Look for the full folder name-- PepiMK Software
Also look for the SFN------------ PepiMK~1
To be very safe, try just-------- PepiMK~ <<just the tilde (~)

If neither is found, then delete the folder in Explorer-- none of the
files inside can be mentioned in the Registry. Otherwise, report back
with your findings.

Note, you may ignore any findings in MRU lists, such as...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Doc
Find Spec MRU

....which is the dropdown box at "START button, Find, F/F".

Re: Strange Content.IE5 behavior

PCR,
I just got done re-installing the SpyBot. I will try to use it again. If
it does not cause problems, I will keep using it. If it does, I will
un-install it again. I do not like being without a spy remover program.
Before I re-installed it, I deleted them from the Trash Bin.

Re: Strange Content.IE5 behavior

PCR,
I tried to post a reply to your post a couple of days. It would not go
through. I uninstalled the SpyBot again and had problems with it. It may be
the many updates it has now. They came out with another version. It ends in
5. I do not remember the exact number. So that may have been the problem
with it. When I used the old version, I did the updates and that is when my
problems began. Right now, the only things for protection of the computer I
have is: AdAware and Avast! I will not mess with the registry. It may cause
too many problems. I really do not care if those folders remain in there.

I like to keep things as neat as I can get them. AdAware is a good
substitute for SpyBot, if you no longer can get that to work. But, start
a new thread about SpyBot because someone else may know more. (I haven't
used it in a while.) Avast! will go after the really bad stuff, if
you've got its settings right.

When a thread gets too long in a section, you must go up to a prior post
& respond to that one instead-- like I did with this & my prior post.
After composing it where it won't post, I "R-Clk, Select All, Copy" &
close the post. Then I move up, & "R-Clk, Select All, Paste".
