Compared to Windows, Ubuntu is still bulletproof. You found one little
vulnerability and you jumped all over it. Maybe you'll have the same joy
in another two years. It's been patched. Live with it.

Talk about being disingenuous. Nothing is more misleading than
Microsoft's next to useless UAC as far as the false pretence it
provides "security".

How dumb is UAC?

Well for starters I can check on it's status from Control Panel and it
says it is turned on. Every so often it pops up a moronic Windows
Security Alert warning saying UAC is off and that I should turn it on.
Typical Microsoft bungling. The left hand doesn't know what the right
hand is doing.

I quite often buy my software by different countries to save cash as many
companies charge what the market will stand which is more than I want to

There are hundreds of holes, just look at the Ubuntu bug reports, there are
a steady stream of them being found all the time.

Yes, last year sometime the $1 CAD was about $1.10 US for a bit, which means
at that time I should have been able to buy it for less CAD than US. But
now at par so lets use that.

Check out Best Buy, bestbuy.ca and bestbuy.com. Vista Ultimate CAD $299 and
US $189 - same company. So if I live in Windsor Ontario, I can go across
the border and save $110, or about 40%.

You will even get worse results if you go to amazon.ca and amazon.com or
compare office. But these stores above are similar and I believe
competitive in their markets. Are all these stores pricing high just to
make MS look bad? Doubtful, Microsoft Canada sets the pricing is my bet.

Don't worry, we both know he is wrong. At a Vancouver hack fest Apple and
Vista fell, Ubuntu survived. All OSes and applications have holes, just
some like MS products have more than most others.

The best track record I know of is OpenBSD.

How many times has a patch failed on MS-Windows? More than I can remember.

F/OSS usually gets patched pretty quick. While in closed source like
MS-Windows, you might get hacked first. Once they realize it is out of the
bag they up the priority for a fix. 6 weeks later after an exploit is in
the wild you might see a fix.

Then there is the level of sophistication in the hack. Usually MS ones are
more sever.

It was patched in ONE day. MS only patches once a month and usually is
waaaaay behind the hackers. It's like when I went over the top with
Frank twice. Count em. Frank has it saved on his computer and constantly
posts it because IT'S ALL HE HAS! Same is true with this vulnerability.
IT'S ALL YOU HAVE!

And, fact is, compared to Windows of any flavor, Ubuntu is bulletproof.
