I'd disagree with the last statement, in regards to ASM. In my programming
efforts for Windows, I've never needed to know the processor architecture
to write programs as you do for writing ASM. And you don't need to know the
individual commands that a processor supports when using any high level
language.

I currently maintain some legacy ASM code for a packetizing narrow-band
data radio. While I'm well versed in other languages, 'maintaining' the ASM
code means not f'ng with it other than very basic editing, very basic, like
rem'g a few lines, or dropping a call. Give me C, VC++, or VB code and I
can rip it apart from top to bottom.

They've (whomever 'they' are) been saying for 2 decades that SSI will be
gone in just a few years. It hasn't happened yet.

(I'm not saying it won't, just that it hasn't happened in the 20 years

I asked in their forum, one of their product managers, told me. One
thing that sets Vegas above other video editors is "real time" preview
which allows you to see changes you make on the fly, prior to actual
rendering. I doubt C++ would be capable, being too slow.
